FAN AND MEDIA VOTES AND POLLS AND OPINIONS - the Premier League finish next spring, and especially - Who is going down this season? Many forums have had threads on potential league positions and even focussing on "Who is going down" this year, so I'm keeping an eye out for that. I'm not saying that Reading will or will not have difficulties staying up. But few sites collect the results together to make an intelligent presentation out of it. But when we can find it this month, I'll bring these to your attention here. Where there's no vote as such I'll still try to give you some interesting threads to follow Please copy any add if you find anything of interest too that puts things nicely together.I'll probably do an official RR poll too ... and maybe on another forum or two So, first off is the poll made in the QPR 'Loft for Words' forum: Total votes so far... more votes mean more PROBABLE the relegation for that team - Wigan - 52 votes Swansea - 42 Reading - 36 Southampton - 33 Norwich - 29 West Brom - 17 Stoke - 14 West Ham - 11 Villa - 5 Fulham - 3 Everton/Newcastle - 1 Edited by daib0, 16 Aug 2012, 02:01 PM.

The Blackpool guys on "Back Henry Street" are helping out great - just put a poll up there, and already quite a few votes in first hour of the thread! Ah, and not to forget RoyalJoe's poll on RR, though this covers only Reading's individual position: http://royalsrendezvous.co.uk/topic/9669921/1 (members only section) ... I'll be a lot more attentive to these polls (and the betting lines) after a dozen games or so. And as Reading clearly demonstrated last year, even half-way through the season there can still be surprises to come. URRZZ! |

Not a forum, but you'll love these words from Matt Le Tissier in a Sky Sports interview!! The new Premier League season kicks-off this weekend and the Soccer Saturday boys have been sharing their predictions for the 2012-13 campaign with skysports.com. First up is Matt Le Tissier... Who will win the Premier League? "The first one is always the hardest to win, so I think Manchester City might find it a bit easier to win the title this year. Although Roberto Mancini would have liked to add a couple of new players, they've got a pretty formidable squad already and there's still time left for them to strengthen it even further." Who will make the top four? "I think Manchester United will push City closest once again. Chelsea will be a lot closer than they were last year and might sneak third this year. In terms of fourth place you're looking at a fight between Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs. At the moment you'd say Arsenal are the best placed but obviously if Robin van Persie does leave they'll be weakened. But at this point in time, with Van Persie there, I'm going to say Arsenal will get that fourth spot." Who will finish in the bottom three? "I fancy all of the promoted teams to stay up. It happened last year and I don't see why it can't happen again. The three sides I think who will find it difficult are Norwich, who will have a little bit of second season syndrome, West Brom, who might struggle, and Wigan, who will probably be somewhere near there come May. Wigan keep surviving every year but I think they could go down this time round." Who will be the surprise package? "Reading could cause a few surprises this season. I like the way Brian McDermott has gone about his job there; he's got his players playing without any fear. Of course they'll respect people but they'll go out and play attacking football and try to win every match." Who will finish as top scorer? "Sergio Aguero. He settled into English football really well last season. He'll only be stronger after that experience." Who is your player to watch? "Adam Lallana. He's my favourite player at Southampton. When I go and watch Saints he's the one I look forward to watching the most. He's got silky skills, he's very good on the ball, he's got good body movement and he dribbles past players. I'm hoping he has a good season because he'll have a big influence on how Southampton get on." |

Reading well out of relegation here too! Team Talk TT's 2012-13 Predictions: Simon Wilkes TEAMtalk Editor Simon Wilkes kicks off our 2012-13 season predictions and expects more Mancunian dominance as well as woe for Wigan Athletic. Premier League top six: Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham. We all know that Sir Alex Ferguson loves a challenge - and seeing the Premier League crown snatched from his grasp by Sergio Aguero's last-gasp heroics against QPR will ensure the Scot is more fired up than ever. Only Shinji Kagawa and Nick Powell have been added to the Red Devils' roster as I write this - but the return to fitness of defensive giant Nemanja Vidic and midfield dynamo Tom Cleverley, coupled with Danny Welbeck's continued emergence as a top-class striker, give United the edge in my eyes. It'll go to the wire again, though, with defending champions City pushing United all the way, only to win the silver medal this time around. Hot on their heels will be London boys Arsenal and Chelsea, who have splashed the cash this summer in a bid to close the yawning points gap from last season, when the men from Manchester romped away from third place. There are huge question marks over Tottenham's appointment of Andre Villas-Boas, who will do well to keep his Chelsea nightmare out of the media's minds, so I'm tipping Brendan Rodgers' rejuvenated Reds troops to grab fifth spot by once again making Anfield the feared fortress of previous seasons. Premier League bottom three: Norwich, Swansea, Wigan. I've a horrible feeling the dreaded second-season syndrome will kick in at Carrow Road and the Liberty Stadium, where the departures of Paul Lambert and Brendan Rodgers for pastures new will prove costly. The Canaries and Swans might well get off to a decent start under Chris Hughton and Michael Laudrup, but I think they'll get dragged towards the dropzone as the season pans out, and ultimately fall through the trapdoor. Roberto Martinez's Latics staged another Great Escape at the DW Stadium last season, but I think promoted trio Reading, Southampton and West Ham will all keep their place in England's top tier, meaning Latics fans should try to enjoy this campaign before heading into the Championship - in bottom spot. Leading Prem scorer: Sergio Aguero - Manchester City. The diminutive Argentine exploded onto the Premier League stage, having the final say in last season's title race with a stunning strike to sink QPR. He'll get plenty of top-flight games under his belt again - and I'm backing him to better his 23-goal league haul to take top spot in the scoring charts. First Prem manager to be sacked: Michael Laudrup - Swansea City. This is a tough category to call as I think most clubs will stand behind their managers this season. I wanted to say Roberto Martinez's time at Wigan might come to an end - but Dave Whelan has gone on record to say he'd never sack the Spaniard, even supporting him if they do get relegated. I'm going for Laudrup as I have a feeling the great expectations following last season's heroics could eventually overwhelm his Swans, who punched way above their weight but did struggle on their travels, losing 11 of 19 games. Biggest Prem flop: Eden Hazard - Chelsea. Roberto Di Matteo has already attempted to quell the great expectations on the young Belgian, saying he is prepared to be patient as he settles into English life. The race for his signature was hotly contested, but I'm not so sure Chelsea's style of play will suit the classy playmaker - and with a host of attacking midfielders at Di Matteo's disposal, he could be a big disappointment. FA Cup winners: Manchester City. City got a taste of Wembley glory in May 2011 - and I think they'll lift the cup once again. Capital One Cup winners: West Brom. Albion assistant Kevin Keen says the Baggies want some silverware this season having achieved back-to-back mid-table finishes in the league. They'll prioritise this competition. Champions League winners: Real Madrid. Jose Mourinho will have been watching enviously as Roberto Di Matteo finally ended Roman Abramovich's long wait for European glory - and will have this trophy high on his wanted list. Europa League winners: Inter Milan. Championship top six: Wolves, Blackburn, Bolton, Birmingham, Leicester, Leeds. Rovers have recruited well and will be up there all season, but Wolves have a rock-solid squad and plenty of second-tier experience to call upon. Leading Championship scorer: Jordan Rhodes - Huddersfield Town. If the Terriers hang onto him this summer, he'll continue his rich vein of goal-scoring form despite stepping up a level. League One champions: Sheffield United. The Blades were so close to making the automatic cut last season - but will get top spot this time around. League Two champions: Southend. Close but no cigar for the Shrimpers last season, they'll get across the finishing line as champions. SPL top three: Celtic, Dundee United, Motherwell. Will be a strange old season north of the border without Old Firm tussles, and the Bhoys could break the 100-point barrier. SPL top-scorer: Gary Hooper - Celtic. Should fill his boots for the Bhoys this season and win this category by a country mile. |

Team Talk 2012-13 Predictions: Mark Holmes http://www.teamtalk.com/manchester-united/7989095/TT-s-2012-13-Predictions-Mark-Holmes Mark Holmes predicts trophy joy for Arsenal and Di Matteo to be a Prem flop in the latest set of TEAMtalk predictions for the 2012-13 season. Premier League top six: Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, Everton. It is always difficult to make these predictions before the end of the transfer window, but the two Manchester clubs were separated by goal difference alone last season, and I am basing my tip on the fact that City have added only Jack Rodwell (and look set to sign Scott Sinclair), while United have added Shinji Kagawa (and look set to sign Robin van Persie). There could well be a genuine four-horse race for the title, but I don't think Chelsea will do quite as well as some are predicting in Roberto Di Matteo's first full season in charge. Arsenal, meanwhile, have strengthened more than any other top club this summer and should be a greater force even without van Persie (if he leaves). I expect Tottenham to strengthen before the end of the month but not enough to make the top four, while, as things stand, I think Everton look stronger than Liverpool. I don't see Newcastle doing as well as last season with the Europa League to contend with. Premier League bottom three: Swansea, Southampton, Reading. There is no awful team in the Premier League this season, but I think there are once again seven or eight that will constantly in danger. Promoted teams have done well in recent seasons, but I think all three will struggle this season, largely because of their defences. Of the trio, West Ham are most likely to chuck money at their problems in January, hence they'll probably just survive. Swansea, meanwhile, have lost Steven Caulker, Joe Allen and Gylfi Sigurdsson from last season's team, and I can foresee a campaign of very few goals for them. I think Fulham will be surprise strugglers, with Norwich, West Brom and Wigan the other teams looking over their shoulders. Leading Prem scorer: Sergio Aguero - Manchester City. It's rare for a striker to score more than 20 goals in his first Premier League season, but Aguero did just that and will only get better in his second. First Prem manager to be sacked: Steve Clarke - West Brom. West Brom's signing of Romelu Lukaku persuaded me not to tip them for the drop, but I still think Clarke will struggle in his first managerial job, and Albion chairman Jeremy Peace proved with Di Matteo that he will take action if he feels necessary. Biggest Prem flop: Roberto Di Matteo - Chelsea. This category is meant for players, but I'm choosing Di Matteo because I think Chelsea will really struggle to match the expectation on their shoulders this season. I predict supporters will be calling for the Italian's head by Christmas. FA Cup winners: Arsenal. I've been really impressed by the Gunners' summer signings and really think they're in for a big season. Winning this could be the start of another trophy-laden era for them. Capital One Cup winners: Manchester City. I couldn't predict City to win nothing, and their squad is so strong that they could win this competition with their 'B' team. Champions League winners: Real Madrid. I predicted Real to win this last season and will do again. Jose Mourinho has assembled a side even better than Barca's, and he'll be determined to land the big one soon. Europa League winners: Inter Milan. Foreign teams seem to handle the demands of this competition better than English ones, and Inter are as good a bet as anyone to go the distance. Championship top six: Blackburn, Cardiff, Middlesbrough, Blackpool, Bolton, Wolves. Blackburn should walk the league with Danny Murphy and Dickson Etuhu in the team, but, unusually, I can see all three of the relegated teams doing well. It's surely time for Cardiff to get out of the division, though, while Tony Mowbray is putting together an exciting time at Middlesbrough, and Blackpool are still strong. Leading Championship scorer: Jordan Rhodes - Huddersfield. I don't think there are too many outstanding strikers in the league but, if he stays at the Galpharm for the full season, I expect Rhodes to carry on scoring by the bucket load. League One champions: Sheffield United. United should have gone up last season, and I don't think they'll miss out for a second time. League Two champions: Rotherham. The Millers are favourites for the title for a reason. SPL top three: Celtic, Dundee United, Hearts. Celtic will obviously cruise to the title, and Dundee United are the best of the rest in my opinion. SPL top-scorer: Gary Hooper - Celtic. Celtic's most prolific striker will undoubtedly top the scoring charts, and that man is sure to be Hooper. |
