| WELCOME TO ROYALS RENDEZVOUS - THE 1871 CLUB The Royals Rendezvous – the 1871 Club was formed over the Christmas-New Year period of 2010-2011. Many of its initial members were regular contributors to the BBC 606 service – alas, no longer in operation – who wished for a more specialized Reading FC orientated forum, whilst maintaining the good spirited type of conversation and banter that the BBC tried to promote. In its first two years of existence, the Royals Rendezvous is achieving outstanding success, with new members signing up continuously, and the member base itself extremely active. Over 500 members, over 70,000 posts is proof enough of the growing role of this specialist Reading FC fans forum web site. It is already recognized in other sporting circles as a major source of news and fan interaction (especially that related to Reading Football club of course), and has a strong and enthusiastic moderation team. Royals Rendezvous has also developed fine relations with many other specialist football forums, especially with teams of our own league. You’re currently viewing our forum as a guest. This means you are limited to certain areas of the board and there are many features you cannot use. However, if you are a fan of another team you are currently allowed to post in “Rivals, but Friends” and the "Other Matches" sections, strictly abiding by the language decency standards that Royals Rendezvous maintains. No aggressive posts, wind-ups or swearing or the post will be edited/deleted. But please read on.... Passion IS very much welcome, knowing that you’ll root for your team, just as we do – so enjoy it on here! RR MATCH PRESENTATION Reading v Nottingham Forest Tuesday 17th April 2012 - Kick off 8.00 pm Madejski Stadium Championship Members participating in the Royals Rendezvous Prediction game - don’t forget to cast your final score, HT score, and your Reading goalscorers - see link near end of this match thread ... see the fun FFF (Friendly Fan Feature) on Nottm Forest (deliberatley mis-spelt ‘Notts’ Forest by a rogue Derby fan in “Rivals, but Friends” – strictly to be taken tongue-in-cheek lads: http://royalsrendezvous.co.uk/topic/9501814/1 Game Introduction Away fans – if you’re coming to Reading, see our own special Royals Rendezvous Guide for Away fans – Travel and Drinks/Food : http://royalsrendezvous.co.uk/topic/9220871/1 And here’s the basic Stadium plan: ![]() FORM GUIDE Table Positions: Reading 1st - 85 points (played 43 games) Nottm Forest 19th - 47 points (played 43 games) Reading Recent form: Quite brilliant, extraordinary! Last 16 games sees 43 points out of 48, reading W14 D1 L1. Going back somewhat, the table on 1st November 2011 after we had just lost to Forest 0-1 away was this: http://www.reading-mad.co.uk/snapshot_tables/2011_2012/1/nov/reading/index.shtml Already at this point 15 points behind Southampton, 10 behind West Ham, 9 behind Middlesbrough, and sorry to remind you Forest fans but Forest were just one point behind Reading in the table – how times change! No doubt helped by our game sequence - WWWWWWWWDWLWWWWW. Forest Recent form: Decent form, for a side that’s been in trouble during most of the season. Last seven games read: W3 D3 L1. The only loss came unexpectedly – a ‘unjust’ grab and raid – from Bristol City in Nottingham, and the outstanding win was undoubtedly the 7-3 mauling of Leeds Utd at Elland Road. Their improving confidence is amply demonstrated in the stat from the 0-0 home draw with high-flying Blackpool at the weekend: shots Forest 13 (9 on target) as against Blackpool 3 (2 on target). They are almost surely guaranteed championship football next season – but will that mean a slight easing off against the Royals? Let’s see ... Recent form table – last 8 games: Please no-one expect a push-over by any means. Although the ruthless Reading head this form table (W6 D1 L1), Forest have done a late-season surge that few expected, and are currently situated 4th on current results (W4 D2 L2). This places Forest above West Ham, Leicester, Birmingham and Cardiff, amongst others. Reading and Forest also easily head the GD stats here too: Reading +11 and Forest +8 (no-one else gets above +5). Check it out for fun: http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/D1/oform.html Current Manager of Nottm Forest: Steve Coterill Stephen "Steve" Cotterill (born 20 July 1964) is an English former footballer who is manager of Nottingham Forest. He played for Burton, Wimbledon and Bournemouth (plus Brighton on loan). As manager, his principal contracts have been five years at Cheltenham, three at Burnley, and just a year at Portsmouth before taking on his current task of rejuvenating Forest. Here’s the man: ![]() NOTTINGHAM FOREST FC – stats and anecdotes: •The unquestionable glory days were within the immense management leadership period of Brian Clough – from 1975 to 1993 – when they were League champions, won 2 European cups back-to-back, and 4 League Cups. They also went a staggering 42 league matches unbeaten during 1977-78 but this evolved over two different seasons ... •Forest does not refer to the legendary Sherwood Forest, but actually to the Forest Recreational Ground just to the north of the city centre where they first played (1865 – 1875) •In recent times the ground has hosted the Women’s FA Cup final three of the last six years. •Interestingly, Forest are solid contenders for being the club with the least number of managers in their history, largely due to the marathon stints of Bob Masters (1912-25), Billy Walker (1939-60) and the great Clough himself (1975-1993). •Record for most appearances for the club go to Bob McKinlay at nearly 700, and all-time top scorer is Grenville Morris with an impressive 217 goals. Do you know about Nottingham – the city? Nottingham is a city and unitary authority in the East Midlands of England, and is located in the ceremonial county of Nottinghamshire. Whilst Nottingham has always had a tightly-drawn boundary (population of 306,700), Nottingham's Urban Area has a population of approximately 670,000; according to the 2001 census, making it the eighth largest urban area in the United Kingdom. In Anglo-Saxon times, around 600 AD the site formed part of the Kingdom of Mercia. When it fell under the rule of a Saxon chieftain named Snot it became known as "Snotingaham"; the homestead of Snot's people. Nottingham was captured in 867 by Danish Vikings. In the 11th century Nottingham Castle was constructed on a sandstone outcrop by the River Leen. The Anglo-Saxon settlement developed into the English Borough of Nottingham and housed a Town Hall and Law Courts. By the 15th century, Nottingham had established itself as the centre of a thriving export trade in religious sculpture. During the Industrial Revolution, much of Nottingham's prosperity was founded on the textile industry; in particular, Nottingham was an internationally important centre of lace manufacture. However, the rapid and poorly planned growth left Nottingham with the reputation of having the worst slums in the British Empire outside India. In common with the UK textile industry as a whole, Nottingham's textile sector fell into headlong decline in the decades following World War II, as British manufacturers proved unable to compete on price or volume with the output of factories in the Far East and South Asia. Very little textile manufacture now takes place in Nottingham, but many of the fine industrial buildings have been restored and put to new uses. Nottingham, interesting shots taken in 1890 (left) and in 1908 (right) - ![]() Nottingham is famed for its links with the legend of Robin Hood and, during the Industrial Revolution, also obtained worldwide recognition for its bicycle making industry. It was granted its city charter as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Queen Victoria in 1897 and has since been officially titled the City of Nottingham. Nottingham has 3 UK parliamentary constituency seats within its borders. Nottingham is home to two universities: the University of Nottingham (formerly University College Nottingham), and Nottingham Trent University, (formerly Trent Polytechnic), centered on Burton Street in the City. Together they are attended by over 40,000 full-time students. In 2010, Nottingham was positioned sixth in the retail centre expenditure league of the UK, behind the West End of London, Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool. Nottingham receives around 300,000 overseas visitors each year. Combining the traditional within the 21st century - ![]() ![]() WEB SITES Official Nottingham Forest Club Web Site: http://www.nottinghamforest.co.uk/page/Home Unofficial Web Sites – daib0’s suggestion: Easy, peasy this time!! I’m going straight for The A Block – on a very similar footing to Royals Rendezvous, and with the same Zetaboards workings as they took the initial plunge of creation at roughly the same time as us! It has easy to see sections, easy signing up, space for away fans, and a number of interesting features once signed up (like an auto-valuation of your next post so see what quality of wording it has!) and the moderation team has the highest ideals – a special mention should be made of NG Two and daddyreddog for their outstanding work. For all things Forest this should be your FIRST visit if you value friendly banter like RR: http://s4.zetaboards.com/The_A_Block/index OPPOSING FANS SECTION Rivalries: Forest fans give their rivalry ‘preferences’ as Derby (the ‘East Midlands Derby’ which even carries the name of ‘The Brian Clough Trophy’ since 2007). I also had down Leicester and Sheff Utd, though fans from The A Block have also cited Leeds Utd and Doncaster too. Interesting that they don’t see Notts County being so much a rival, even though County fans themselves do! Famous Fans: Famous and celebrity people following (or used to support) Forest in their spare time include – Richard Bacon – DJ and TV presenter, Sue Pollard – actress (see below), James Dean Bradfield – singer (Manic Street Preachers) and Lee Westwood – golfer. Also two fictional series characters: Simon Gregson who has played Steve McDonald in Coronation Street, and James Hooton who played Sam Dingle in Emmerdale. Newer ones that have come to light – how about: Kenneth Clarke – British conservative politician, Carl Froch – the English professional boxer (2 time WBC Super Middleweight boxing champion), who is a season ticket holder and even occasionally trains at the ground (!), Stuart Broad – cricketer, who supports both Forest and Leicester Tigers. World Champion 110m hurdler Andy Turner is a Forest fan too, as too is ‘Dr. Who’ – Matt Smith, who said in an interview on ‘This is Nottingham’: “"I'm a huge Forest fan". Thanks especially to denimjays of The A Block for uncovering most of the new ones, and he has even found that … Luis Felipe Scolari said he was a Fan of Brian Clough and Forest on 5 live !!! Special feature this time on - Susan Georgina "Su" Pollard, (born 7 November 1949, Nottingham) is an English comedy actress, most famous for her roles in the famous sitcoms Hi-de-Hi! and You Rang, M'Lord?. She is also well known for her unusual and flamboyant dress sense and her abrupt voice ... ![]() NICKNAMES ETC. ‘Forest’ is the most heard. The ‘Reds’ is often used, obviously as the colour of the home strip, and worth pointing out that this colour has been used without interruption from 1865! A curious one is Tricky Trees, difficult to source, but maybe referring to Clough’s cunning match plans in the late 1970s and early 1980s when although usually perceived as the underdog generally came out on top on 90 mins! MATCH DAY EXPECTATIONS Attendances: Reading’s average at home this season is 18,844 – and we’ve overtaken Hull in 9th place of attendance charts – by a flimsy 45 average per home game. But a bumper crowd in this Forest match should help us consolidate that ... Squads and Team News: Not available yet - please add any news in your posts and comments - one of the most important things to add here before kick-off! SCORE PREDICTIONS My own verdict: Reading 2 Forest 1 Forest in fine form ... and I considered 1-1 before keeping the Reading bandwagon rolling! For most of your predictions see: http://royalsrendezvous.co.uk/topic/9501913/1 - Please do ADD your prediction on this special link, which counts for the RR Prediction Game 2011-12, being organized by RoyalJoe - couldn't be easier, and you'll have some fun, so try it even at this stage of the season ! If you don’t fancy participating in the game, but still would like to give a one-off score prediction, just leave any prediction on this Match thread itself (we don’t take these into account ...) What do others say? The Oddschecker site, listing nearly all the major betting companies, shows Reading are huge favourites, you won’t get hardly anything back; Fotest about 5/1 and a draw 3/1 ... SUPERSTITIONS THIS DATE in history! Reading has started some 16 times on this day, and our showing is: W8 D2 L6 – not so bad really. Worst defeat was in 1985 when Derby County whacked us 1-4 at their place, but our good goal difference over history is more than part due to the last time we played on this day – a 6-0 thrashing of poor Peterborough at the Madejski Stadium in 2010 – and you’ll all recognize the goalscorers too: Pearce (3’), Sigurdsson (25’ - pen), McAnuff (29’), Kébé (44), Long (59’) and Sigurdsson for a second on 76’. How do Forest do? They have played 24 times, but it’s not a favourable reading: W5 D7 L12. But they are all silly niggly odd goal defeats, or two at the most. Last two showings on this day were a 2-1 home win over Yeovil in 2006 (League 1), and an away loss at Blackpool 1-3 in 2010 – the goal scored by Garner on 66’. Finally, a few extra shots of this important British city - ![]() Let’s start up - and keep going - the comments as you wish, and as they happen up to and during the game. In your hands, make this a nice thread! Enjoy it! daib0 Edited by daib0, 14 Apr 2012, 08:46 PM.

You're correct, however after their demolition of Brighton today I just have this feeling they can go on to win all 3 remaining games, requires us to get 4pts minimum to secure promotion which I feel we can do in the next 2 games. |

Yes was keeping tabs on the game and was slightly shocked considered how well Brighton played us, but fair play to West Ham, to beat a play-off chasing team 6-0 is nothing short of remarkable. There is one thing that makes me think they could slip up on Tues, they have wasted 5 goals there...

Yep, dead right. Originally 7.45pm it was later changed to 8.00pm but I forgot to edit - why, is it going to be televised? In any case, following on 15 mins later is probanly to our advantage, just in case we needed a favour ... |
