WELCOME TO ROYALS RENDEZVOUS - THE 1871 CLUB

The Royals Rendezvous – the 1871 Club was formed over the Christmas-New Year period of 2010-2011. Many of its initial members were regular contributors to the BBC 606 service – alas, no longer in operation – who wished for a more specialized Reading FC orientated forum, whilst maintaining the good spirited type of conversation and banter that the BBC tried to promote.

In its first two years of existence, the Royals Rendezvous is achieving outstanding success, with new members signing up continuously, and the member base itself extremely active. Over 500 members, over 70,000 posts is proof enough of the growing role of this specialist Reading FC fans forum web site. It is already recognized in other sporting circles as a major source of news and fan interaction (especially that related to Reading Football club of course), and has a strong and enthusiastic moderation team.

Royals Rendezvous has also developed fine relations with many other specialist football forums, especially with teams of our own league.

You’re currently viewing our forum as a guest. This means you are limited to certain areas of the board and there are many features you cannot use.

However, if you are a fan of another team you are currently allowed to post in “Rivals, but Friends” and the "Other Matches" sections, strictly abiding by the language decency standards that Royals Rendezvous maintains. No aggressive posts, wind-ups or swearing or the post will be edited/deleted. But please read on....

In addition you'll hear first hand of our news and announcements, and be able to participate in an all-ranging 'anything goes' section.

Drought; how much water do you use?

I probably don't need to remind anyone of the news coming through this week with hosepipe bans officially coming into effect in certain areas of England, particularly in East Anglia. We are facing terrible weather conditions coming into summer, and the use of standpipes will probably be seen this summer, reliving 1976 for those who were alive.

Looking at ways people can save water, I thought I'd do a quick survey on the RR group. The question relates to shower usage. The prescribed time for a shower is five minutes, but I was just wondering who actually sticks to that time, or who takes less or more time. Be honest, as there is no blame here, just seeing whether a change is needed in habits, or whether we are actually on the level. Me personally, I take longer than five minutes, so I will try and cut down.

More than 5 minutes in Aberystwyth because my shower is so pathetic.

When I'm at home the shower is like the Niagra falls, so I can be done in 2 minutes or so.

But then it's a trade off, because 30 minutes of my shower at Uni probably uses about the same water volume as 5 minutes at home..

I think we had all of Aprils rain in one day this week in the Midlands. Torrential rain for about 8 straight hours with the only break coming for an hour of snow.

Back to the question in hand.

I definitely take longer than 5 minutes in the shower. The first two minutes are spent getting the temperature right after the kids have turned it to almost freezing.

I've never set the clockwatch, but I'd guess at about 5 mins itself. Always seem to shower in a rush, always have to get moving shortly afterwards.

By the way, why do people criticize saying about people "oh, that shower"? Never understood why!

Been sunny all day every day of this week on the south coast :D (despite the weather forecast). Made sure we filled our swimming pool ahead of the hosepipe ban though so I can't say I'm helping beat the drought :s
