| WELCOME TO ROYALS RENDEZVOUS - THE 1871 CLUB The Royals Rendezvous – the 1871 Club was formed over the Christmas-New Year period of 2010-2011. Understand we've completed the loan signing of Matt Connolly from QPR until the end of the season. Formed a solid centre back partnership with Gorkss there and their defence gave one of the best defensive performances I've seen at the Madejski (alongside the Sheffield United defence of Kenny, Naughton, Walker, Morgan Kilgallon), at least in the Championship when we beat them 1-0 in the last few minutes thanks to a Sigurdsson penalty. Not sure if he played at Loftus Road the season they got promoted but they were absolutely solid again then (we lost 3-1 despite them having ten men when Bradley Orr got sent off). Will be a really good defensive cover, only 24 but with a lot of experience of this league and a good relationship with Gorkss and will know Ledge well too. |

I assume he'll be like a Ledge signing. On loan first and if he does well buy him at the end of the season. |

More media - READING have completed the loan signing of QPR defender Matthew Connolly. The 24-year-old has been restricted to just seven appearances for Rangers this season, and hasn't featured under new boss Mark Hughes. Connolly has fallen further down the pecking order after the arrival of Nedum Onuoha from Manchester City, and Hughes has given him the green light to join the Royals until the end of the season. Ealing Gazette Reading have signed QPR defender Matthew Connolly on loan until the end of the season. he 24-year-old has made seven appearances for Barclays Premier League Rangers so far this term, most recently during the 1-0 defeat at Arsenal on New Year's Eve, and arrives at the Madejski Stadium in search of regular first-team football. No recall clause has been inserted into the deal, and Reading manager Brian McDermott was delighted with his latest acquisition. He told the Royals' official website: "He can play anywhere in the back four and we think this is a really good signing. He's played a number of games in the Premier League this year and played more than 30 times with Kaspars (Gorkss, the Reading centre-back) last year. I remember him as a youngster at Arsenal, Bournemouth, he's been a utility player and he's just the job at 24." Eat Sleep Sport |

Another good signing. A young, reasonably quick versatile defender, proven at Championship level and with PL experience? Yes please. If nothing else he'll be good cover and gives us better strength in depth in our defence. Where is he going to play though? He can play CB or full-back but I'm not sure if he's left or right footed. Number 3 is the traditional left back's number, and I think he would be able to do a better job in that position than Griffin or Harte. Not sure why Joe Mills is not playing there. Can't see Connolly getting in the first team over Pearce, Gorkss or Cumming, so it looks like he'll play left-back or if bot, definitely the bench as he's more versatile than our other defenders. |
