| WELCOME TO ROYALS RENDEZVOUS - THE 1871 CLUB The Royals Rendezvous – the 1871 Club was formed over the Christmas-New Year period of 2010-2011. Many of its initial members were regular contributors to the BBC 606 service – alas, no longer in operation – who wished for a more specialized Reading FC orientated forum, whilst maintaining the good spirited type of conversation and banter that the BBC tried to promote. In its first two years of existence, the Royals Rendezvous is achieving outstanding success, with new members signing up continuously, and the member base itself extremely active. Over 500 members, over 70,000 posts is proof enough of the growing role of this specialist Reading FC fans forum web site. It is already recognized in other sporting circles as a major source of news and fan interaction (especially that related to Reading Football club of course), and has a strong and enthusiastic moderation team. Royals Rendezvous has also developed fine relations with many other specialist football forums, especially with teams of our own league. You’re currently viewing our forum as a guest. This means you are limited to certain areas of the board and there are many features you cannot use. However, if you are a fan of another team you are currently allowed to post in “Rivals, but Friends” and the "Other Matches" sections, strictly abiding by the language decency standards that Royals Rendezvous maintains. No aggressive posts, wind-ups or swearing or the post will be edited/deleted. But please read on.... I say keep it save the Wet Sham fans from having to see their team play appallingly. What do we think about the BOA maybe getting rid of their if you cheat you can't go to the Olympics rule? I think if you cheat you should be banned from the sport for life.. |

Absolutely agree Hayes. What a waste of money, just to satisfy the ego's of Mr Coe and company. And I see we're now hosting some other major athletics event in a few years time. Hospitals are falling apart, old people are dying of cold during the winter months and unemployment is through the roof. What do we do? Stand the cost of major sporting events, at god knows what cost, and plough money into Europe and overseas aid and support America in pointless wars. Someone will, undoubtedly, come on here and say the olympics is good for the economy. Economically it will benefit very few people, a few rich people will get richer, and when you compare the gains against the cost of staging the event, it will pale into insignificance. Although that's one balance sheet they'll never let us see! |

Coe was always a snobby little so and so. Ovett was the peoples champion. I remember the 1980 Olympics where they beat each other in the races they were expected to win. Ovett won the 800 metres first (which Coe was the favourite for) and a few days later Coe won the 1500 metres (which Ovett was favourite for). Having won the 1500, Coe wouldn't even shake Ovetts hand. I was once told a nice story about Steve Ovett. He was recovering from an injury and went along to a local athletics club who were holding an open competition. He just wanted a bit of a run out against some opposition. Of course, he won his race at a canter. He was then presented with a radio as his winners prize. He tried to decline it but the organisers were adamant that he had won, so he should get his prize. He stayed at the event all day, he didn't just run his race and then leave. The last race of the day was for some youngsters with learning difficulties and other disabilities. He watched the race, then went up to the runner who came last and presented him with his radio. Can't imagine Coe ever mixing with the commoners like that! |
