McDermott scooped the top gong after guiding Reading to the Championship title following last year's play-off heartbreak at Wembley. The 51-year-old boss beat Southampton's Nigel Adkins, Birmingham City's Chris Hughton, Cardiff City's Malky Mackay and Watford's Sean Dyche to the prestigious award. McDermott had a 56 per cent win record in 2011/12, losing just 13 games during the season.
