A thousand miles away, but just round the corner in spirit
Jackie Deverall was born on the 5th May 1916 in Petersfield. He played for Reading as a wing half from 1937 or 1938 up till 1948 –a shame the war years deprived him of his best spell as a footballer. Still his Reading record reads: player from 1937 to 1947, making 78 appearances, scoring 10 goals. After Reading he played 127 games for Orient (scoring 3) during 1948 to 1953. He retired in Sittingbourne, and died in 1999.
